Got lots of new stuff for the show! The Stalemate is my latest fine art Giclée print. It uses two crows bickering over a blank canvas to symbolize the struggle between the itch to paint vs the question of what to paint. Thus the inevitable stalemate shows up. I have had a bit of a lul in creativity lately, so I turned the problem into an answer itself. Ding! Ding! We have a winner!I have been doing a lot of sketchbooking lately, and decided to put together a mini-sketchbook compilation. I call it “Attack of the Sketchbook!”. It is thirty six pages of the best of my sketchbooks from the first half of 2011. Several of the drawings were suggestions from fans on facebook.com/sumrow. The mini-sketchbooks are 4″ by 5″ and will come complete with a free Approved by the Comics Code sticker and a free refrigerator magnet while supplies last.
As always the new print is now available in the shop! shop.johnsumrow.com The Attack of the sketchbook will be available at the Albuquerque Comic Expo June 24th – 26th and then online shortly after!
Hope to see you at the Albuquerque Comics Expo! Thanks for stopping by! And THANK YOU for supporting the arts! ~ John
So I mentioned Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s track “Fire” on Facebook and my buddy Marc challenged me to draw Rosa & O.D.B in space on a bus with wings. I try to do a Daily Doodle 365… so WHY NOT!! This is what I made. Hope you like it! Jump in on Facebook. Sometimes I take strange requests. Hint, hint. Hit me!
Kira approves of the new colors for the Buddha Bot shirts. She likes color. Hope you guys do to! These should be live in the shop in next few days. The color rundown: Lavender, Kiwi, Lake Blue, Light Denim, and Texas orange. All Anvil organic shirts, and all hand printed. I’m trying to decide which one is my fave. Which one is your’s?

The creators of the Zombie Outlaw comic: Brian J. Apodaca and B. Paul Jordan, were kind enough to send me a copy of Issue no. 1 after we had met at the 2011 Albuquerque Comic Con. This is a little “Thank you” in the form of a little piece of fan art. Obviously I had some fun with the Zombie Outlaw and snuck in my own character Lenny the Mouse.
The artwork is unique and has a great polish to it. Good luck to Brian and Paul! You guys have your undead hands full! ![]()

This year I decided to draw – A LOT. It started innocently enough. I told myself that I would wake up and doodle in my sketchbook during my ritual morning coffee. Then I started numbering them. Next, I gave it a name: The Sumrow Daily Doodle. Then I started to lose sleep. O_o
I welcome you to jump in and watch daily as these drawings unfold. Some are cool, some suck, but I’m have fun! And THAT is the key.
I also do an open call for suggestions. I will announce the open call in the evening and draw the weirdest, most intriguing idea the following morning. Jump in the waters fine…

Just wrapped up my latest, and probably last, version of the Buddha Bot. Now it’s time to make some shirts!

Just taking a moment to upload a few images from the 2011 Albuquerque Comic Con. Day one was a HUGE SUCCESS! I got tons of love from from everyone who stopped by and are blown away at the warm reception to my Art. I had some anxiety going in, this being my first solo booth at a convention/fair, but all that vaporized in all the excitement and good vibes. I must say everyone at the convention was up-beat and getting their jolly geek on! I felt right at home.
The turn out was massive! The line of people to get in stretched around the the Albuquerque Hilton building all day and never let up. This of course was good news for the various vendors and artists. For most of the day, there was a solid crush of people moving back and forth in front of our booth in the Artists Alley. There is a ton of local talent on display as well, and I love seeing Albuquerque talent represent! I couldn’t get to browse the fellow Artists and vendors because I was so busy tending the booth. Day one of the Albuquerque Comic Convention was a perfect first step, and I am looking forward to day two!

So it’s decision time! The Buddha Bot artwork is close to completion. Now is the time to make the final color choices for the bot and the shirt. Hmm. I’ve always leaned towards the Teal. But the Indigo blue is looking nice as well. If I leave the Bot open then it will assume the color of the shirt. Many possibilities. What do you think? Comments and critiques welcome!
