Daydreaming of past battles…

Daydreaming of past battles, 9" x 12", India Ink & Watercolor on watercolor block.

I had the good fortune of meeting William Stout at the last Albuquerque Comic Con 2012. As luck would have it my booth was one over from his. Let me just say that he is an incredibly nice guy. It was great talking to him about drawing and painting. He is insanely talented and very giving with advice. It was wonderful to met him and very cool to be booth neighbors. I ended up buying two of his collected books Inspirations & Hallucinations. In Inspirations he outlines in the forward how to do his signature “Rackham/Duloc” watercolor technique. Feeling very inspired, I took the technique for a spin. I haven’t painted with watercolors in quite a long time, but I think it turned out ok. What do you guys feel about this one?

Till next time. ~ John

The Game... Pitt Pens on copy paper.

This started out as a challenge from the lovely Ms. Jury to do something “Mythical”. I have had D&D on the brain lately… so this image just popped into my head. Thanks for stopping by. ~ John

The Magic Trick , 5.5"x8.5" Ink & Watercolor pencils in my Cachet sketchbook.

I’m exploring new ways to shade these days: Hatching, stipple, ink wash. I have obviously not settled on a style. But that is what the sketchbook is for, exploring. How important is it for me to nail down a signature style? This is the question that haunts me… Till next time. ~ John

The Daleksons Shirt is now Live!

Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!

Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!

EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Who has sent this cute Dalek to detention? Who is making him write Exterminate 1,000 times? Who could have come up with such a clever Simpsons + Dr.Who visual gag?
My Fans that’s WHO!

The Story:

After a daily “What shall I draw?” poll on facebook, my fans had the Simpsons & Dr. Who tied for first place. I was a bit apprehensive, but eventually it dawned on me I could combine these two pop culture icons using the classic Simpsons “Chalkboard gag”. Replacing Bart with a Dalek and adding Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate! was a winner. The fans agreed! So here it is.. the Fan generated Exterminate shirt! Now live in my shop!!

CheFC, the revolution continues…

CheFC is Live! In the shop...

The revolution is far from over! CheFC is now back in my shop! Go get it!!

My TeeFury Experience on Oct. 1st –

Wow. Twenty four hours of CheFC on Teefury seems like a brain melting eternity! It was a real hoot! Hell of a roller coaster ride! I am currently waiting on my Z is for zombie submission to be printed on Teefury as well. After that, I am planning on a longer write up to get all my thoughts together on designing and selling shirts online. So far, my sketch-of-a-plan is working. In no small part due to good family support and friends.

Now back to the drawing board. Hmm, but what to draw? Bacon? Zombie doughnuts?

Thanks for stopping by! YOU! Yes you!

Z is for Zombie – Evolution

The evolution of the "Z"Z is for Zombie - Final B&WZ is for Zombie - DONE!!

Above we have a handful of sketches I did in the evolution of this piece. Nothing earth shattering, but it’s interesting to look back at my thinking process. Once I nailed down the black line work, it was Wacom color time.
Now, complete and in color! I wrapped up this little Z project last night. Gave my new Wacom tablet a hefty work out. It is rather funky getting accustomed to not looking down as I draw. Weird. But it went really smoothly. Looking forward to doing much more.

Now on to the next project…
